I recall yesterdays empty blue sky of unrelenting perfection,
relief is found in the white wisps
like the graffiti on my heart.

the space between the clouds

Turf Grass Research Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA-June 29, 2011

An over zealous angle must have been in charge of sweeping the heavens.  Today
the wisp free sky was the color of  a child's brand new wading pool.

Wandering Awake

Sometimes my mind wanders dreamlike all the day long into that wordless wondering~
Within reach like that cloud touching my willow tree

ode to the lost poem

I had a poem wandering round my head.
Wandering round my head,
I wish I could remember what it said.

in time

When I was young I walked alone
because words were hard.
Time took me forward and the world thought it knew me-
I did not know how.
Somewhere I found a voice that the world accepted -
so I could walk in time.
But secretly I stayed myself.

carried home

Dove - by Douglas Robertson

I am cradled in the silent rush
the feathered threads of his white wings straining
                                                                                                                       toward bliss

Hovering sentries singing me safely through~with the beating of their wings.

And the heart of the white bird carries me home without so much as a whisper.

the oddly almost overcast day
breezily exhaled with a laugh
flipping my skirt around my legs
and tickling my knees until they smiled

the wait

Blacksburg Va, June 18, 2011

June 18, 2011 small stone

The weight
The sum my fears
hung around my neck.

My confessions and tears filled the hem of my skirt.
June 18, 2011 Large stone

The weight hung around my neck while I smiled for them.
Such a lovely thing-  look...
too lovely
too heavy
too long
too much
too big
much too big
too close to the edge for me.
I began to drift out the closed glass window
and was turned away.
As I dimmed the clouds thickened-
the wind of each word spun leaves past the window and
reckless imbalance into my thoughts.
with my tears came sideways torrents of rain
that gashed the against anything in my way.
I held everyone captive as I grasped clumsily for a rickety banister of words.
She lingered by the window for a moment while he looked on.
Both wanted to understand-
I think they did in the end.

I needed a tissue - but my dress hem was all I found.

on my mind

Sport-less... I drove 45 minutes to try on the
Strapless dress -a first at 51.
Our daughter will be married next month.

seeping into my sleeping

the well worn path

30  years of evening walks with my husband
have worn a path
my heart and his.

when I should be sleeping

Intensely I focused
as the day went by.
Latent distractions appeared in my bed
and flowers petals whirled into
seating arrangements.

someplace better

a table full of orchids
I move outside to eat my breakfast

(mindful writing prompt on WOWH-going into the kitchen)

through the open window
the towhee's call
sat between
the sounds of distant traffic
and the rumbles of my tummy

I see in retrospect

I pull 15 days aside
a weightless
sheer curtain
and see paths of flowers and debris
I have walked through-

Small Stone Blog Splash-We need your help...

Kaspa & Fiona have taken over my blog for today, because they need our help. Here is their video.

They are both on a mission to help the world connect with the world through writing. They are also getting married on Saturday the 18th of June.

For their fantasy wedding present, they are asking people across the world to write them a ‘small stone’ and post it on their blogs or on Facebook or Twitter.

A small stone is a short piece of observational writing – simply pay attention to something properly and then write it down. Find out more about small stones here.

If you’re willing to help, we’d love you to do things:

1) Re-post this blog on your own blog any time before June the 18th and give your readers a chance to hear about what we’re doing. You can simply copy and paste the text, or you can find the html here.

2) Write us a small stone on our wedding day whilst we’re saying our vows and eating cake, post it on your blog, and send it to us.

You can find out more about our project at our website, Wedding Small Stones, and you can also read our blog at A River of Stones.

We also have a July challenge coming soon, when we’ll be challenging you to notice one thing every day during July and write it down.

Thank you for listening, and we hope we’ll be returning from our honeymoon to an inbox crammed with small stones, including yours.

more often

if i was here more often
i would not be where i have been
my heart prepares in its own way
i ebb
i flow
i wander
i wonder
i find the way i need to go
